Trading Firms, Rumo in Tough Negotiations Over Take-or-Pay Contracts

Grain trading houses have taken a tougher stance in negotiations with railway operator Rumo regarding next year’s grain transport contracts, especially under the take-or-pay clause.

Still, Rumo CEO Pedro Palma expressed confidence in the pace of contract signings in the coming months, stating that they will close at the prices desired by the company as the harvest approaches.

Palma expects a strong transport demand as Brazilian farmers are expected to reap a record soybean crop and  a bigger corn output in 2024/25 compared to the previous season.
